Who Can Join?
The American Legion welcomes veterans who have served honorably in the United States Armed Forces during designated eligibility periods. You must have received an honorable discharge.
Eligibility periods include:
- April 6, 1917 - November 11, 1918 (World War I)
- September 16, 1940 - July 25, 1947 (World War II)
- June 25, 1950 - January 31, 1955 (Korean Conflict)
- August 5, 1964 - May 7, 1975 (Vietnam Era)
- August 2, 1990 - July 31, 1992 (Gulf War)
- September 11, 2001 - Present (Global War on Terror)
How to Join
- Find your local Legion post using LegionFinder
- Visit your nearest American Legion post in person
- Bring proof of honorable military service (DD-214, discharge papers, or similar documentation)
- Complete the membership application
- Pay your annual membership dues
